This year at Bikertoberfest there were not one but two huge Meet & Greets. Friday it was the third annual M&G at the Iron Horse. Then, Saturday there was the even bigger MeetUp at the Broken Spoke. No official count on either event but based on the field data it looks like around 700 people showed up on Saturday. This could be the largest gathering of BON members ever.

Real quick. There are two new huge features that I need to tell you about.

First is tagging.

You can now delete tags and turn tagging off on your photos completely. If you block someone they can’t tag your photos.

Second.

You can now set your profile as private. When you select private then only friends can view your profile. Additionally, your profile now has a feed that only your friends can see. The feed is a log of your activity on the site.

I was a bit surprised this morning when I saw a Harley-Davidson banner on the top of my profile on BON. This is an incredibly good sign. A Harley-Davidson banner is about as relevant as it gets on BON.

Don’t get me wrong though. BON is for all motorcycles. But it sure is nice to see a manufacturer spending money to reach the BON membership.

I am a little late in posting this news. But, it is a huge deal. The folks from Hitwise called to tell me that BikerOrNot is now ranked the largest biker site in the USA based on market share of visits. Actually, BON is now the largest site in the entire Automotive-Motorcycle industry. We finally passed Harley-Davidson to take the number one spot.

It seems almost inconceivable that less than 2 years ago BON was just and idea. An idea to take what sites like Myspace do for the general public and customize it with features built just for the biking community. The two most important applications built into BON that have made it grow so quickly are the rides and the events. BON was built from scratch. Line by line. Other biker social networks have used ‘out of the box’ software.

A sales rep from Hitwise called the BON office to give us a demo of their analytics package. We ran a few reports and there were some big surprises.

According to Hitwise, BikerOrNot is the second largest motorcycle site in the world — second only to Harley-Davidson.
